It's still hard for me to believe that the cruise Cait and I took was more than a year ago. It was truly an amazing adventure, and we'll have stories to tell for years to come.
Many of them involve me being horribly sick.
And one of them also involves how my sickness managed to totally wreck our planned shore excursion in Honduras. (This is a particularly touchy one for Cait.)
So, the original plan in Honduras was Beginner Scuba. I mean - c'mon! We're going to be in Honduras! Let's live a little!
We were pretty devastated when my horrible flu-like illness meant that we had to back out of that plan. Cait was understanding, considering just how disappointed she was. She understood that going under the water with a head so full of snot would be totally agony for me. And even SHE isn't that heartless.
Instead, we were able to go on an excursion to Gumbalimba National Park, where we kayaked out into the ocean, snorkeled (during which we swam like a freakin' mile), and went on a tour that included meeting some monkeys.
Monkeys! How pysched were we??
I was a little freaked out when the first one just walked over and climbed right up to sit on my shoulder. Once I got over the initial shock, I was delighted. He (she?) was ADORABLE! Cait loved every single minute, and hated to have to leave. She didn't even mind when one of them stole her new sparkly earring right out of her ear. (We did manage to get it back, but that little monkey was quite a little rascal, and made our guide really work for it.)
What started as a disappointment ended up being a totally amazing day, and one we'll never forget.
Especially since I have such nifty scrapbook pages.
(Did you NOT see the crafty tie-in coming? Silly you.)
Background patterned paper is by Studio Calico (from the Atlantic collection). Other patterned papers were pulled out of my scrap bin - I know the aqua is American Crafts. Not sure of all the others. The letters are American Crafts Thickers, and the green map tags are Studio Calico. The larger map circles are cut from a Basic Gray patterned paper, I think. The smaller circle map garland is Studio Calico, as is the little flag paper clip, and the geotag chipboard stickers. (I even managed to point the one geotag to Honduras on the map...I'm so slick. LOL) Finishing touches were some baker's twine (My Mind's Eye?) and little pearls in the geotag holes.
Background paper is by Crate Paper from 'The Pier' collection. (Hello? Chevron AND ombre? Love!) The white scalloped border is from a pack of Just the Edge borders from Bazzill. The blue ledger paper is Bo Bunny. I used my Silhouette to die cut the title, the white doily circles, and to make the two green tabs and the green journaling spot. (This was the first time I had really used the print & cut feature while designing my page - was cool. Got the exact colors that I wanted.) Finished it off with some blue washi tape, some rose colored flowers, and some crocheted white button things. (Those are very bulky. Not sure if I like that, but oh well.)
Scary Suspension Bridge
Background paper is Studio Calico, I think. (Like the one 'Honduras' one above, this page was made with one of my monthly Studio Calico kits during one of my ambitious moments.) I think the orange paper came from the kit, too. The kraft woodgrain is Pebbles, I think, and I think the green ledger is American Crafts. Not sure about the white ledger, that was from my scrap basket. Letter stickers are by October Afternoon (orange) and Pebbles (kraft). I found Heidi Swapp flowers (OLD!) in my orange embellishment drawer, and folded those in half and tucked them under on the diagonal. I used some hemp twine (came in the SC kit) and a Bazzill stitching template to hand stitch the vines. (Took ages, and I will confess to a moment of panic after poking the holes, but am happy with the end result.) Finished it off with a sticker (Amy Tangerine) and some wooden buttons (Basic Grey).
Black Bazzill cardstock background. All patterned paper is from Fancy Pants, as is the sticker on the right page. Foam letter stickers are American Crafts Thickers. Not sure about the white ones, though. Most of the die cuts are from Studio Calico (speech bubbles and red journaling spot), and the journaling card under the 'hello' bubble is by Elle's Studio. White arrow paper clips are from Two Peas In A Bucket. Stamps (BEST DAY EVER!, the best, this was AWESOME, FAVORITE) are from Elle's Studio, and the yellow enamel dots are My Mind's Eye. Date stamp is American crafts, and the only other little detail is the red washi tape. I am especially proud at how I managed to have the title actually be the end of the journaling. That took some planning!
There are probably more photos from this day, so we'll see if there are more pages to come (eventually). So far I have five, including one I shared a week or so ago. That's certainly the mark of a good day!
